Introduction
Alpine ski racing is a very demanding athletic pursuit and is available to high school students in Oregon. It requires from the participants a high level of physical and mental fitness, self discipline, dedication, preparation to be competitive. is administered by
The Oregon Interscholastic Ski Race Association (OISRA) is authorized by the State Board of Education to administer High School Ski Racing. The State Board of Education has granted the OISRA authority similar to that granted to the Oregon Schools Activities Association.
The OISRA is a voluntary body and is divided into an Alpine and Nordic Division. The Alpine division is comprised of representatives of seven regional leagues through out the state of Oregon. Each league in turn is comprised of parents, coaches and other volunteer helpers who organize alpine ski racing events from January to March, culminating in the OISRA State Ski Championships.
The Emerald League
The Emerald Ski Racing League is a member of the Alpine Division of the OISRA and holds six Alpine ski racing events (Slalom & Giant Slalom) for high school students in the mid Willamette Valley in January and February. Our area ranges from Roseburg in the south to Salem in the north.
How to Join:
You must provide your own skis & boots. Also each racer must pay dues, buy their lift tickets. Because alpine racing requires a large number of helpers, each racer must provide a person (usually a parent) that is willing to help at two races during the season. We can usually work things out so individuals and schools with only a few racers can join.
